Monthly Favourites | April

This month I reacquainted myself with some forgotten gems, after finally giving my stash a well overdue spring clean (we will forget the fact that I only sorted the lute out back in january), and welcomed some overdue spot busting goodies into my skincare routine. As a result I have a mixed bag of products that have well and truly earned a spot in my April favourites. Including several skincare treats, a discontinued balm, a high end mascara, a hand cream that smells like candy, aswell as two bargainalicious must haves thrown in for good measure.

When I initially tried a sample of Benefit's They're Real Mascara I was left less than impressed. Yes it added a fair amount of volume and length, but the good was outweighed by an overly wet, super clumpy formula. So how a full size tube of this mascara ended up in my possession im not to sure, but surprisingly im glad it did. I dont know whether the sample was a little different, but the formula of this is spot on. Let's just say iv'e been converted. With just a few strokes my lashes are left looking thick and dark, and as a result this has quickly become my go to mascara.

Next up we have a new love, que the Seventeen Stay Time 18 Hour Concealer. Move over Collection Lasting perfection Concealer as theres a new budget friendly beauty on the block. Although im not completely sold on its lasting power (in no way does it last 18 hours), I cant deny how it effortlessly covers blemishes and imperfections without looking cakey. This month I managed to put my beloved Naked eyeshadows down long enough to try something new. I seriously cant get enough of this Wet n Wild Colour Icon Eyeshadow Trio in Walking On Eggshells. These budget friendly shadows are satiny smooth, super pigmented and seriously beautiful.

I cant help but gush over my next favourite. I am completely smitten with this Rhubarb and Rose Replenishing Hand Cream from Molton Brown. This luxurious cream quickly absorbs into the skin, leaving hands feeling soft and moisturised. To top it off, it has a scent that lingers for ages. Think Rhubarb and Custard Sweets, a concoction that really shouldn't work but does. For skincare I have been loving the Pixi Glow Tonic and La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+. Together, these truly are the ultimate everyday spot fighting duo (expect a proper review soon).

Finally, I rediscovered an old favourite only to find that it has now been discontinued (sob). Applied before bed, the Dior Creme De Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm does a wonderful job of leaving my lips feeling wonderfully soft and smooth. Why discontinue it Dior? why?

What have you been loving this month?! photo sophiesignature_zpsa3420772.png

The Princess Tag | Favourite Luxury Beauty Products

So Iv'e decided to do a little bit of a different post today. The Princess Tag (Favourite Luxury Beauty Products) was created by the beautiful Tati from Glam Life Guru. Although Iv'e not actually been tagged to do it, I thought it would be a bit of fun. Lets face it, we all love a good bargain, but theres something exciting about a high end splurge. I know a Lipstick purchase should be based upon pigmentation, shade, ease of application and longevity, but dont you agree when encased within a sleek black MAC bullet, or fancy gold packaging with an embossed YSL logo makes the product all the more special?! So what products leave me feeling like a Princess?!

Foundation -
No matter how many times I stray away from Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua (heres looking at you Estee Lauder DoubleWear and DiorSkin Nude BB), I always find myself coming back to it. This lightweight, long wearing, 'your skin but better' foundation, to me is the ultimate everyday essential. You can read my full review here.

Concealer -
For me Collection 2000s Lasting perfection is the creme de la creme of Concealers. However if I were to splurge on a high end concealer it would have to be MAC's Studio Sculpt. This creamy offering applies like a dream, and due to its consistency is perfect for covering those problematic spots. Finish with a setting powder and your good to go.

Powder -
As a sufferer of oily/combination skin, I rely heavily upon powder to keep my makeup in tact throughout the day. Chanel's Les Beiges Healthy Glow Powder prevents me from becoming an oily mess. Unlike most powders this velvety soft beauty doesn't leave me looking cakey, infact its so sheer its practically unnoticeable.

Bronzer -
For Bronzer I've chosen Tarte's Park Avenue Princess (how ironic). This gorgeous bronzer has a slight hint of sparkle but doesn't leave you looking like a disco ball. Like the blushers, Park Avenue Princess is seriously pigmented, so much so that a little dusting definitely goes a long way. So what makes it the ultimate luxury bronzer for me?! Park Avenue Princess gives a lovely flush of colour without looking orange, or muddy like most (no one wants to look tango'ed right?!)

Blush -
Keeping with the Tarte theme, it will come as no suprise that I chose Tarte's Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy. This beautiful peach shade is seriously pigmented, easy to work with and long lasting (I seriously agree with Tarte's 12 hour claims). The fact that Tarte products are hard to get hold of in the UK makes this blush all the more special.

Highlighter -
Tom Ford's Shade and Illuminate is the ultimate luxury product. The highlighting shade, leaves a gorgeous sheer glow. Aside from the packaging and gulp worthy price tag, what makes it special is that it brightens the face without being overly shimmery.

Eyeshadow -
It will come as no suprise that I opted for the Urban Decay Naked Palette. Urban Decay shadows in general, blow all other competition out of the water. Ridiculously pigmented and buttery soft, whats not to love?!

Eyeliner -
For me, an eyeliner needs to be jet black, super pigmented, long wearing (my eyes are forever watering) and easy to apply!! I am happy to say that I have found all this in Chanel's Liquid Eyeliner. I literally swatched every high end liquid liner in House Of Fraser before i settled on this.

Mascara -
If you've read my posts for a while, you will be well aware that Im forever on the look out for the ultimate mascara. Although Iv'e yet to find the one, that holy grail Mascara that creates the perfect false lash effect, I always find myself going back to YSL's Shocking Mascara. With various sized plastic bristles, the wand makes applying the product a doddle, catching all of the lashes, resulting in a "shocking" fluttery effect. If that isn't enough to make you swoon, YSL's Shocking Mascara comes encased in luxurious gold packaging, embossed with the YSL logo.

Lip Liner -
My one and only high end Lip Liner RiRi Hearts M.A.C Pro Longwear Pencil (RiRiWoo) is a pigmented matte pencil, and the perfect base for bright reds to stop them migrating.

Lipstick -
As a total Lipstick junkie it was really hard to pick just one shade. After much contemplation Kate Spade won. Everything about the designers lipsticks are princess like from the fancy spring loaded gold packaging to the name "Supercalifragilipstick" (oh how whimsical). Fuchsia Fete is a fabulous wearable, sheer bright pink, with a smooth, moisturising formula, and balm like consistency.

Lipgloss -
Never before had a lipgloss made the grade, until Chanel's Jalousie's Glossimer came on the scene. Forget poor colour pay off and uber sticky lips. This highly pigmented bright pink is opaque enough to be worn alone or paired alongside Fuchsia Fete.

Brow Product -
Benefit Brow Zings is the ultimate eyebrow shaping kit. With a small compact mirror, pigmented wax and powder, two brushes and a tweezer, what more could you ask for!

MISC -
I couldn't talk about my favourite luxury beauty products without mentioning Chanel's Les Beiges Kabuki Brush. I searched high and low for this  brush after reading Claudia's rave reviews. Not only is it a perfect companion to the Les Beiges Powder (definitely a handbag essential for touchups throughout the day) but it is literally the softest brush I have come across. With chic black packaging adorning the iconic double 'C's this little kabuki screams luxury.

Nail Polish -
This was such an easy product to pick. Chanel's Peridot is the one and only high end polish in my collection. Peridot is a beautiful green/gold duo chrome shade, which reflects a hint of blue in some light. Because of that, this shade adorns my nails for most of Autumn/Winter.

Sephora Haul

Being the dutiful makeup maniac that I am (should I admit that) It would have been rude not to visit two out of the three Sephora's 'aka Beauty Mecca', Paris had to offer during my recent city break (FYI I sadly never found the third one, sigh). After hearing good things about the Sephora in Champs Elysees I couldn't wait to get my beauty geek on, and I am happy to report that it exceeded my expectations.

Unlike the American Sephora's, a lot of the brands that were on offer are readily available here in the UK (and a lot cheaper I may add), so I set my sights on the Sephora own products and Exclusive sets. That being said I did fall in love with the Two Faced Teddy Bear Brushes (aaaah so soft and so pretty).

Enough of my ramblings im sure you would rather know what I bought?!
I have heard so many good things about the Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover and the Sephora Micellar Water so these were the first products on my radar (with all the other french skincare goodies I picked up, I have guiltily pushed them to one side).
After forgetting to pack nail polish, I decided that it was the perfect excuse to purchase a new one (someone get me help haha). I couldn't resist Sephora Jacuzzi, a beautiful pastel blue!! Whilst perusing the endless display of nail polish, I sneakily popped the Express Nail Polish Remover into my basket!!
My boyfriend actually convinced me to pick up the Sephora Targeted Eye Remover Swabs. A big fan of the DHC Olive Virgin Oil Swabs, I cant wait to see how they compare.

Sephora Exclusives
One of the best things about Sephora would have to be the exclusive sets/collections. If my euros would have allowed it, I would have quite happily cleared the shelves.
Lee Lee's Beauty Secrets...
Unsurprisingly the clutch/bag like packaging of Benefits Lee Lee's Beauty Secrets got me hook, line and sinker. Packaging aside the contents of the the set seriously impressed me with a full sized They're Real Mascara, full size That Gal Brightening Face Primer, a deluxe mini sample of Porefessional and a 10ml sample of the Laugh With Me Lee Lee Perfume (expect a review soon!!)
Nails Inc Ice Cream Sprinkles Collection...
Finally last, but certainly not least I picked up this ridiculously cute trio of Nails Inc Polishes. Your not gonna ask a serial nail polish hoarder to justify her purchase are you?! haha. The set includes Charing Cross (a beautiful baby pink), Upper Regent Street (a chocolate brown shade) and the piece de resistance Ladbroke Square (a mint based glitter polish).

Anyone who has visited a Sephora before, will be aware of the tempting goodies that are stocked by the till!! Waiting in the que I popped in a mini deodorant spray and these lovely gold Eyelash Curlers.

So there we have it, my goodies from Sephora. Personally, I think I was restrained (I seriously could have spent a small fortune) but I will let you decide on that ha.
Have you gone a little crazy in Sephora lately?!

Dont make me blush

So when the lovely Charlotte took to twitter in search of guest bloggers I jumped at the chance. Sorting through my stash I came to the realisation that I have quite the obsession with those pretty pink powders also know as blusher. After much umming and ahhing over what to write about, I decided that it was only right to share my little collection with Charlottes lovely readers.
Ive mentioned a few of my must haves (a hard task for a blusher junkie like myself), including some cult favorites (Nars & Tarte to name but a few).

I would love it if you took the time to check out the post here!! ..and take a peek at Charlottes lovely blog while your there!!
I would love to know what you think!
Are you a lover of Blushers?!

Best of 2012

Raiding through my ever growing makeup drawer whilst trying to decipher what my my most used and loved beauty products have been over the past year, made me realise just how much my tastes have changed. Last January I would have picked MAC Studio Sculpt as my holy grail foundation in a heart beat, whereas today I would firmly chose Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua.
Ive gone from opting for a neutral lip, needless to say creme cup has been replaced with various shades of bright pink (hello show orchid). As for skincare, I am no longer that girl who would lazily use wilkos finest face wipes and the cheapest cleanser on offer. These days I have a range of products that suit my skin, and in return ive noticed a dramatic difference in my complexion.

Weekend Essentials

So nearly two weeks ago (time seriously flies) the Boyfriend and myself spent a lovely, hectic weekend in London, of course for a makeup obsessive I didn't travel that light (Is bringing 6 lip products a little excessive for two nights away? no I didn't think so either ha). Swapping and changing, these 5 pamper must haves made the cut, as I squashed them into my already bulging suitcase, oops. So here it is, my weekend essentials.

BB Sunday Shampoo- When I originally purchased this Shampoo, I may or may not have overused it due to its amazing cleaning effects, which sadly led to my hair getting lighter in colour due to its stripping ingredients. Since this incident I only use it on a Weekend to leave my hair feeling squeaky clean, so a perfect tool for a weekend running around the capital.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir- I will quite happily admit that I excessively use this product, I use it after cleansing both morning and night, throughout the day, aswell as when I feel my skin is in need of a little tender loving care. I absolutely love the smell, its like a Spa in a bottle, and it refreshes my skin. Whether it actually does that much im not to sure, but it well and truly has a home in my makeup bag!!

Lush Ponche Shower Gel- After a somewhat in-depth conversation with the sales assistant at Lush about all things spice scented, she very kindly sent me away with a near full try me bottle of Ponche (I can never get over how friendly and fabulous the sales assistants at Lush are). Since then this has been my go to shower gel of a morning, It really is like a party in the Shower. I wont even attempt to describe this as im awful at identifying and describing scents, but with a shot of tequila and with influence from Traditional Mexican Christmas Punch, Ponche is a perfect wake me up of a morning.

Benefit Boo Boo Zap- When I originally purchased this spot treatment I was slightly unsure on how to dispense the product, after getting over that little stepping stone I have found this to be a brilliant spot remover, so it is understandable why it is a necessity for a weekend away!!

Benefit Foamingly Clean Cleanser- Long gone are the days where I may or may not have used just wipes to clean my face (naughty I know). This Benefit product is a perfect sized Cleanser for a weekend away!!
So there you have it, my weekend essentials! What are your must haves for a weekend away?

whats inside my makeup bag

Hello lovelies, i hope your all well. Being a serial snooper i rather enjoy seeing posts on the items you lovely people keep in your bags, makeup bags included, so i thought i would give you guys a little insight into what i use on a daily basis. My makeup bag of choice is of course my beautiful mulberry locked cosmetic purse (if you want to see a post dedicated to the beauty itself click here ;) if your wondering where my makeup brushes are, i keep them separate as i dont want them getting my makeup bag all messy.
 Dr Jart+ Beauty Balm
This is a new addition to my makeup bag, and it is already becoming a firm faviourite. It claims to minimize the need for foundation and concealer and that it does. Although i still adore my studio sculpt foundation i have been using this to let my skin breathe a little as studio sculpt is quite a heavy foundation
Collection 2000 concealer
ive been using Dr Jart+ Beauty balm with my collection 2000 concealer. Ive raved about this concealer many a time, and all i have to say is that it deserves to be hyped about
YSL touche eclat
i apply a little of this as a highlighter under my eyes
Loreal Paris lumi magique primer
this is another new addition but a definite new fave. not only does it prime the skin which in turn helps my foundation stay longer, on my oily prone skin (boo). But it also doubles as a highlighter, it is seriously gorgeous from the rose gold detail on the packaging to the product itself
Benefit Brow Zings
apologies for the sheer grubbiness of this, i couldnt be without this little duo, anything to keep my unruly eyebrows at bay is a plus in my books. I also love how it includes small tweezers, a perfect makeup bag essential
Bobbi Brown Extreme Party mascara
yep your eyes arent playing tricks with you, im actually mentioning the same mascara more than once, i think there may just be a long lasting relationship with this beauty, it lengthens aswell as thickens my lashes, what more could a girl want
Bobbi Brown Long wear Gel liner
a jet black liner that lasts all day on my oily lids, a definite statement in my makeup bag

Urban Decay Naked palette & Bobbi Brown long wear cream shadow in velvet plum (37)
for the past week or so ive been using virgin and sin with velvet plum on a daily basis. Im not usually a fan of cream eyeshadows as they tend to crease but velvet plum seems to last well, and it is such a beautiful shade that the picture just does not give it justice.
YSL rouge Volupte (10) & Chanel Jalousie
These two together are a perfect combination, although rather bright shades ive quite enjoyed using them on a daily basis

So there you have it, these are the goodies that i store in my makeup bag!!

New York Haul, Part 2 (Makeup)

a trip to the US would not be complete for any makeup fanatic if a visit to sephora and duane reade along with several other pharmacies did not happen.
To be fair i had a pretty long sephora list, however my spending money could not permit me purchasing every item in the store ha, so i settled on products that were harder to get or near impossible to purchase at home.

Urban Decay, all nighter long lasting makeup setting spray $10
ive heard rave reviews about this setting spray, so i hope it loves up to my expectations.

Benefit- the pretty committee $30
i seriously wish that sets like this were readily available in the UK, with the rose gold bag and the three full size products, i couldnt not purchase this beauty. The set includes a full size Bella bamba, full size stay dont stray, a full size eye bright and a mini high beam.

Fresh sugar kisses mini lip duo $0
ha yep that's right these lovely lip treatments were a freebie as my birthday had been the previous week, god bless sephora.

i think the next two items i purchased are pretty self explanatory (not purchased in sephora)

physicians formula happy booster $14
with uber sweet packaging and the claim of creating happy skin, im looking forward to trying this blush

EOS lip balms, sweet mint & summer fruit $4
i think every blogger and their mother either have or want one of these lip balms, and i certainly will admit i gave into the novelty and hype of these egg shaped beauts that smell amazing and are pretty moisturizing

Benefit the POREfessional

Hello lovelies, i hope your all well!! so quite a while ago i decided to invest in benefits the porefessional and heres what i think so far. Porefessional is said to reduce the appearance of pores, and in all honesty i wouldn't say it does anything for my pores, ive seen no considerable difference when its been applied, however this is a brilliant primer, its super soft and due to it being oil free applies like a gem to my skin without melting off, it hasn't broken me out in spots like my previous MAC primer and leaves my foundation staying put most of the day, my opinion has somewhat varied over the month or so that i have been using this , at times ive felt as though it has been a somewhat pointless step within my makeup routine, however to be honest those lazy days when ive missed this step ive noticed how my foundation does not go on as smoothly!!
The down side to the porefessional is the £23 price tag!! if i smothered large blobs on my face im sure it would cover my pores, but due to its price tag i use this sparingly and a little certainly does go along way!!..will i repurchase this?? If something better comes along no, but for now only time and my bank balance will tell ;)
Have you tried the porefessional?? what did you think of it??

So Glamour have done it again..benefit freebies

So as the title suggests glamour magazine have well and truly excelled themselves yet again, every year they seem to release three benefit freebies within the monthly magazine around this time of year last year it was the likes of posietint! this year the choices are that gal primer, the porefessional and bad gal lash mascara, i didn't pick up the mascara because im not a fan and find the formula quite messy, however after purchasing confessions of a Concealaholic last year i have been an avid fan of that gal primer, with an almost bubblegum sent, lovely texture and one of the only primers that seems to help my makeup last i couldnt help but pick it up (too be honest i may pick more up, naughty naughty), i also picked up porefessional, ive been using this primer for the past month or so and still dont know what i think of it, so expect a review when ive decided.

the awesomeness of benefit minis is that they last absolute ages, and for what would in reality be £30 worth of stuff if all bought together, £2 for a cheeky freebie and a good read is fab in my eyes!!
have you picked up a glamour mag?? if it makes you feel better theres three different covers aswell ;)

My Benefit Brow Bar Experience & brow Zings Review

Hello lovelies, i hope your all well!! my eyebrows have always been something ive not been happy about, when i was about 13 i stupidly over plucked one of my eyebrows so they have never matched, fed up with how they looked i decided to finally visit a benefit counter after hearing rave reviews from friends to finally fix my unruly brows once and for all!! so you may wonder why ive never taken this step before? well although i have a slight mishap on one brow, i am a larger brow lady which i love, and have always feared having them extremely over plucked to a horrendous shape, but after seeing the lovely results on friends i decided to put my trust in a benebabe. And if im honest im glad i did!!

the lovely MUA in question was totally not pushy, down to earth and did a brilliant job, she explained how i would have to try and grow my brows out to fix my little mishap and has banned me from plucking my brows except for stray strands until my next visit, however through waxing, tinting and plucking she shaped my brows wonderfully and finished the look with benefit brow zings, i was completely happy and still am. I was apprehensive about having my brows waxed because ive never had it done before but in all honesty it was alot less pain free compared to conventional plucking. The shape has stayed put and ive noticed my brows have grown a lot less than usual which is a plus due to the waxing!! would i go back again? yes i totally would infact im going back in two weeks time, but i would only want the benebabe who did it before as she was all for big brows, i dont know how another would have treated my accident such as over plucking it etc.

So onto Brow Zings, after seeing the results after the benebabe applying this, i decided that i needed it, but in all honesty although i really like it, its no different to the elf brow kit which i think is just as good for the fraction of the price. However i do like how it comes with two applicator brushes and little tweezers, its an ideal compact for on the go!!
Im really tempted in the future to have HD brows, but for now im pretty happy with the results i have received, have you had your brows tamed at benefit?? what did you think??

Benefit Boo Boo Zap...

As mentioned in my previous post, with all the stress of uni work my skin has been pretty naff as of late, the biggest problem no doubt has to be the break outs ive been getting, so i decided to invest in benefits boo boo zap, this was a slight whim purchase whilst looking for anything that would possibly reduce my spots other than my beloved Sudacrem, but with all the hype of the benefit skincare range, aswell as seeing how lovely one of my friends skin looks from using the products i decided to invest. Like all benefit products i absolutely love the packaging, in what seems like a china tube with a faux cork screw top, this beauty looks lovely on my dresser, however i have a slight gripe in terms of application, with no pump or swab etc i almost have to tip the product onto my face which results in using more product than needs to be. Aswell as this due to the lovely packaging its hard to tell how much product is left. In terms of the spot treatment itself its really lovely, ive been using the product for two weeks and ive noticed a massive reduction in the amount of spots. Boo boo zap is said to dry out spots and reduce 'acne related redness' aswell as preventing further spots, i dont think it necessarily does the latter but the first bit is definitely true.

Boo boo zap is pretty expensive at £13.50, it is definitely worth it so far, but there are certainly more affordable options with the same results. Its just nice to use something a little fancy during a time of essay consumed days.
have you tried boo boo zap?? Any cheaper spot removing alternatives??

FOTD Chanel Perfection Lumiere (review)

 MAC Prep and Prime
Benefit Erase Paste
Chanel Perfection Lumiere (30 beige)
MAC blush-Mocha
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Shadow- urban decay (sin & toasted)
Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara
Soap&glory Supercat eyeliner

Hello lovelies, i hope your all well, please bare with me, i am awful at trying to pose for photos like this (so apologies if i look awkward) today i road tested Chanel's Perfection Lumiere in 30 Beige..like most of you probably did i purchased elle magazine this week (basically for the free soap&glory mascara) and the tester for Perfection Lumiere was in it. Now im not one to usually test something from a magazine but it was Chanel, was a pretty good match and i couldnt resist.

The foundation itself has quite a strong perfumed scent to it, im not overly fussed but im also not bothered by it at the same time..it was easy to apply with my usual foundation brush and a little definitely went a long way, i had enough to touch up throughout the day.
When i first put this on i really liked it, i liked the matte finish, and the colour seemed perfect for my skin, however as the day went on (this photo was taken this evening) as you can see it began to be somewhat patchy and looked darker than when it was originally applied..okay it may be because i haven't been matched for a shade and this is to dark!! id definitely be matched and get a tester again to see, as i really liked the lightweight matte finish to it!!..with my MAC Studio Sculpt my face tends to look quite shiny at the end of the day but with this it didn't!!

Altogether i have mixed reviews on this, im tempted to get matched and see how that goes, but if it does go patchy throughout the day this is definitely not the foundation for me!! although it seems to be a nice foundation im not sure if i could justify the £30ish price tag

Have you tried Perfection Lumiere? what did you think?
